18 Jun The Tuarira Mtaita Scholarship Fund
Mentor. Teacher. Friend. A Legacy That Lives On
Established by Africa University alumni and friends, The Tuarira Mtaita Scholarship Fund aims to assist deserving, top-performing students with limited financial means in accessing higher education. The fund honors and extends the legacy of the late Mr. Mtaita—a dedicated educator, mentor, and cherished friend, whose lifelong commitment to teaching and service continues to inspire.

Mr. Mtaita served at Africa University from 1993 to 2025, contributing as crop science coordinator, assistant dean and acting dean in the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources and as chair of the University Financial Aid Committee. He died in March, from injuries sustained in a road accident.
Known for his brilliance in the classroom, Mr. Mtaita also exhibited deep humility, warmth, and unwavering generosity. He believed that true education extended beyond books, into modelling and guiding students about discipline, service, and the reality of the world beyond Africa University.
Many recall how he cared for their wellbeing and encouraged them as if they were his own children. His quiet acts of kindness and steady presence made him a pillar of strength to those navigating unfamiliar academic and cultural environments.
Though he is no longer with us, his impact can be felt and seen in every life he touched and every student who will benefit from this scholarship fund. The initial goal is $7,000 by July 18, 2025, to fully support one Africa University undergraduate student for the 2025-2026 academic year, which begins on August 4th.
Your gift to The Tuarira Mtaita Scholarship Fund carries forward an incredible legacy. Thank you for opening the doors of opportunity for those who need it most.
