The CAMINO Frances is a 500-mile (800 km) trek starting in the Pyrenees of southern France before crossing into northern Spain, and continuing westward to the cathedral city of Santiago de Compestela. Hundreds of thousands annually walk the route as a pilgrimage or for other personal reasons. The clamshell is the symbol for the CAMINO, and is used to mark the roads and paths that lead to Santiago.

Jane has always LOVED to walk, and completing the CAMINO Frances has been a dream for a number of years after we saw ‘The Way’, a 2011 motion picture starring Martin Sheen that gives a good sense of what the CAMINO is about.

After making preliminary plans, we prayerfully decided to use our walk to raise funds for a full four-year scholarship at Africa University. The goal is $30,000, which will pay for all fees, including room and board, for one student, plus the mandatory laptop when they begin their program.

Jane and I are self-funded, and will pay for all of our own expenses, so ALL contributions will be used only for the scholarship.

We are excited and at the same time a bit apprehensive as we start our CAMINO in early September, and expect to take six weeks to complete it. Please join us in your thoughts and prayers as we walk!!!!

We will post regular updates on the GoFundMe page, as well as Facebook and Instagram pages (Larry Kies). If you use WhatsApp, there will also be a group where we will try to post almost-daily updates and pictures but will probably limit postings to Administration only so that your phone is not repeatedly pinging all hours of the day and night.
